New Roots is one of many innovative high schools focused on educating students holistically. Using experiential learning, small classrooms and place-based education, these schools address issues of sustainability and social justice within their community and the world at large. Green Charter Schools Network aims to support and strengthen school which focus on educating students about their relationship and responsibility to the environment. New Roots is a member of this network, along with many other charter schools.
Common Ground (9-12)
New Haven, Connecticut
Similar to New Roots, Common Ground focuses on environmental learning and producing leaders with healthy and sustainable life practices. Located in New Haven, Connecticut, Common Ground developed a farm that provides food to urban residents, offering a model for sustainable agriculture.
Tapestry Charter School (k-12)
Tapestry seeks to integrate a passion for learning into the lives of each student. Similar to the mission at New Roots, Tapestry aims to provide challenging academics that produce critical thinkers and active leaders in society.
Wisconsin River Academy Charter School

Believing that there are alternative ways of educating, Wisconsin River Academy gives students experience in an interdisciplinary curriculum focused on their relationship to the environment around them.

The Ecole is an international school that aims to spark students' passion through action. Aligned with the mission of New Roots, the Ecole encourages creative and critical thinking through personal experience in nature.
Community High School (9-12)
Ann Arbor, Michigan
Community High uses intimate classroom settings as well as the surrounding environment to strengthen individual and community responsibility. Like New Roots, CHS uses community resources as critical tools in educating.
Casco Bay High School (9-12)
Casco Bay focuses on educating students through intensive expeditions. Similar to New Roots, Casco Bay is a small school where student take active responsibility and faculty knows individuals intimately.
