Jazz on the Porch at The Clinton House

On Monday, August 23rd New Roots Charter High School will host its second annual “Jazz on the Porch” event from 4:30 to 6 pm, welcoming the community to celebrate the school’s expansion along with faculty, staff, students, and their families.   Jazz on the Porch will be an open Jam that welcomes players and listeners alike.  The Jam will be at The Clinton House on the Corner of Seneca and Cayuga Street in Ithaca and light refreshments will be served. 

The evening’s program will consist of well-known jazz standards and arrangements in a variety of styles.  A goal of the New Roots Music Department is to keep jazz alive and thriving in Ithaca, and to share the gift of music with the downtown community.


The house band will consist of New Roots students and local musicians Greg Evans, Alejandro Bernard-Papachryssanthou, Peter McWain and others.  The Jam will start with the house band, followed by an open invitation to anyone who wishes to participate. A special musical selection will be dedicated to pianist Josh Oxford, who was part of the Jazz on the Porch band last year and had signed on to play again before a debilitating car accident.  New Roots will also host an Open House on Thursday, September 2nd from 5:00-7:00 p.m.  All are welcome!
