Spaghetti Dinner!

May 14th, 2010

How do you know when your kids are actually enjoying the homemade meal that you made just for them? When an entire cafeteria filled with almost one hundred students is silent - at lunchtime - eating their food. That's when you know.

New Roots wants to share the feast with you. Ithaca's newest high school is serving up another helping of its Spaghetti Dinner on Wednesday, June 9th. New Roots invites the public and greater Ithaca community to the Farm to School Benefit to support the school's meal program. Spaghetti Dinner will feature gluten-free pasta with vegetarian and meat sauce; bread, butter and salad; and blueberry-apple crisp with vanilla ice cream. Water, cider, coffee and tea will also be served.

The New Roots Farm to School Program is a creative and interactive part of the school day that involves students in preparing produce from local farms for daily lunches.

Directly following the Spaghetti Dinner will be a Parent-Teen Information Night, hosted at New Roots Charter School, for interested students and families. Principal Tina Nilsen-Hodges will be joined by members of the New Roots faculty and current student body to answer questions. The PTIN will take place from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. and registration is required. Please register by calling 607-882-9220 and selecting extension 100.

The Spaghetti Dinner will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Women's Community Building, located in Downtown Ithaca at 100 West Seneca Street. The all-you-can-eat buffet is $10 for general public, and $5 for kids age six to ten. Children under the age of five can eat for free. Please call 607-882-9220 and select extension 100 with questions.

Update from the May Spaghetti Dinner: A Fiscal and Community Building Success!

The Spaghetti Dinner in May raised about $900.00 in support of the Farm to School Program — and a lot of feel‐good energy in the community. New Roots parents have expressed appreciation for the opportunity to meet other parents, be social with New Roots staff, and to contribute to the school in a tangible way. Thanks, Allyn, for your leadership in making this happen. . . on a day when you’ve already served up

lunch for 100!
